Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Leeds United Premier League clash v Aston Villa

Mark Lawrenson has described Leeds as “horrible” to play against and is backing them to get a result in their Friday night clash with Aston Villa.

The Whites travel to Villa Park on Friday night (13 January) as they look to snap a streak of three consecutive draws and six games without a win against Unai Emery’s side.

And while Lawro has been impressed by Emery’s impact at Aston Villa since coming in in November, he told Paddy Power in his predictions column (13 January) that he believes Jesse Marsch’s side can “spring a surprise”.

“Unai Emery has done well at Villa since coming in, but they could only draw against Wolves last time out in the league,” he wrote (13 January).

“I’m not sure he’ll have been too worried about the FA Cup defeat, as they can focus on getting up the table now.

“Leeds look like they’re going to be busy in the transfer window this month. They’ve got loads of fight, and are horrible to play against. I think they can spring a surprise here. Villa 1-2 Leeds.”

Needed

Leeds seem to have come out of the conversation about relegation for a lot of people after moving up the table, but the reality is that we’re only two points above the relegation zone.

A bad result against Villa followed by other results going against us could see us right back in the mix within 24 hours and those nail-biting times are what fans want to avoid.

Villa struggled with Stevenage in the FA Cup last week and were shocked that they got beaten, but Leeds fought back against Cardiff to avoid a similar fate. That same fight and intensity will be needed in this game.

Key players are back from injury and if they can turn in a performance that we know they’re capable of, then this is a fixture that Marsch and Leeds should see as winnable.

Those three points could be massive in the grand scheme of the season, and we need to get some winning momentum back on our side. Fingers crossed that Lawro is right about this one.

In other Leeds news, one in-form ace could miss the game while Marsch hands out a debut in our predicted XI for the clash with Villa
