Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Leeds United clash vs Crystal Palace

Mark Lawrenson has slammed Leeds as “distinctly average” when predicting the result of their weekend clash against Crystal Palace.

The Whites claimed a point in a goalless draw against Aston Villa last week, after Luis Sinisterra was sent off leaving the team with ten men for almost 40 minutes of the second half to leave them in 12th in the table.

But now ahead of a trip to south London to face Patrick Vieira’s side, Lawrenson told Paddy Power [7 October] that he wasn’t impressed by Jesse Marsch’s side and expects them to suffer defeat at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.

“I saw Leeds last week and I just thought they were distinctly average,” he said.

“They are very, very competitive, there’s no doubt about it, but in terms of chances created they were few and far between.

“I like Palace, I like watching them, I think they’re really easy on the eye. I know they got beat by Chelsea last time but I think they’ll have enough here. Crystal Palace 2-1 Leeds.”

Ouch

That’s a bit harsh from Lawrenson, but if he’s only judging the team off the performance against Villa then he’s probably got a point.

The team’s showing last time out was far from good enough and not what we’ve come to expect from Marsch’s side, but that means the only way is up from there and there should be an improvement this week.

Palace are a difficult side to play against with a solid defensive base and some exceptional talent in attack like Wilfried Zaha, Ebere Eze, Michael Olise and Odsonne Edouard, but Leeds have their own talent pool to choose from too.

It should be an entertaining game regardless of what Lawrenson’s opinions are of us, and hopefully we can put on a show to prove him wrong by claiming all three points at a difficult ground.
