Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Man United will come out on top of Leeds in the huge Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday.
He thinks Leeds will be “dangerous going forward” but thinks that will play into United’s hands and is predicting a 2-1 home win.
The game will play out behind closed doors after it was announced that Manchester (and Leeds) are staying in Tier 3.
Writing in his regular predictions column on the BBC Lawrenson said, “Manchester United have been relatively poor at Old Trafford all season, with only one win in six home league games.
“I’m backing them on Sunday, though, because Leeds can’t, won’t and don’t change their style.
“That will probably suit Manchester United, who are not used to teams coming out and attacking them. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have struggled to break down sides that just sit in, but that won’t be a problem here.
“Leeds will be dangerous going forward, of course, but I just feel their attacking mindset will play into Manchester United’s hands.”
Leeds have a genuine chance
Man United are brittle at the moment.
They let in two goals against a Sheffield United side who had only scored five in 12 games before last night.
Leeds scored five against Newcastle but also conceded two against a pretty poor Steve Bruce side.
With both sides looking to attack on Sunday it could spell lots of goals and a real humdinger after the flat Manchester derby.
We think it could go either way.
The bookies go with Lawrenson, with Man United at 4/6 for the win and Leeds at 7/2. That’s a price that might well tempt a lot of Leeds fans and neutrals.
United have been beaten by Palace and Arsenal at home, and were absolutely spanked by Tottenham. They only just beat West Brom.
Leeds absolutely have a chance of springing a shock and there are two things in their favour.
First, Man United played last night and have one less day to prepare for the game. Second, there will be no fans and having supporters in could have given United a big lift.
One thing is certain – this is the biggest game of the season so far for Leeds fans.
