Mark Chapman mocks Martin Keown on BBC MotD2 after Leeds United v Chelsea controversy comments

Mark Chapman made light of the post-match brawl between Leeds United and Chelsea players on Saturday (11 December).

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was at the centre of a mass brawl between the sides at Stamford Bridge after the final whistle of a 3-2 defeat for Leeds.

Later that night, ex-Arsenal hero Martin Keown was critical of Rudiger for his role in the incident, but he was the butt of the jokes on Sunday evening as Chapman made light of it on BBC Match of the Day 2 (13 December).

“Here’s Martin on Match of the Day last night,” Chapman said.

Replaying the clip, Keown said: “He’s got to keep a lid on this, he walks a bit of a tightrope at times, he’s a little bit too aggressive.

Chapman: “Oh we love Martin, do as I say, not as I did. We’ll show a couple more, watch this he mouths ‘I played the ball’. Got to have a cooler head, Martin.”

Dion Dublin was left in hysterics in the BBC studio after Chapman’s light-hearted dig at Keown.

Mayhem

It descended into chaos after the full-time whistle at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as both sides clash on the pitch.

Tensions previously boiled over as a result of the penalty conceded by Mateusz Klich in stoppage time, with Illan Meslier shown a yellow card for his angry protests.

Junior Firpo then appeared to be the ire of Rudiger’s fury as players confronted each other upon the game’s conclusion.

In fairness, Leeds players did well to avoid getting into more trouble – there have been previous examples of referees dishing out red cards for post-match incidents, and any hostility from a Leeds man would have placed greater strain on Marcelo Bielsa’s depleted squad.

Jorginho’s 94th-minute penalty was a killer blow to Bielsa as his side’s valiant display was not rewarded with any points, and they now face a tough test at Manchester City on Tuesday, with Pep Guardiola’s side unbeaten in the Premier League since 30 October (0-2 v Crystal Palace).

In other Leeds United news, this Whites player has undergone a major operation and his injury lay-off timeline has been outlined.
