Marcelo Bielsa unlikely to risk key Leeds mainstay v Spurs after injury blow – report

Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely to risk Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich against Tottenham on Saturday, according to Leeds Live.

The Polish international was forced off in the 5-0 win against West Brom on Tuesday, with what was described as a thigh problem.

The reliable source has shared that Klich is set to miss out on a place in the squad alongside Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente, who remain absentees.

This would be a big blow for the Whites.

Klich has played in 107 out of 108 games that Bielsa has taken charge of since arriving at Elland Road, only missing that game away at Derby after sealing the Championship title.

The fact that Leeds Live have suggested he won’t even make the squad isn’t great, and this could be a big chance for Jamie Shackleton.

Bielsa handed him the chance to come on at the Hawthorns against West Brom, and he certainly did enough to earn a spot against Spurs.

It is a massive step up in competition though, and Shackleton has struggled against the likes of Leicester this season – this will be a chance to prove himself.

There is never a perfect time to pick up an injury, but with the FA Cup tie at Crawley next week, Klich was likely to miss out on that one either way.

Bielsa will look to utilise his under-23s against the League Two side, and it will give Klich two weeks to recover in time for the Premier League clash with Brighton.

Not only will the midfielder return, but hopefully the likes of Llorente and Cooper can also return and leave the Whites with a full squad apart from Robin Koch.
