Marcelo Bielsa stands in silence after Leeds United drubbing v Manchester City
Marcelo Bielsa stood in silence on the touchline after Leeds United lost 7-0 away at Manchester City on Tuesday night, according to Beren Cross.
Writing via his personal Twitter account, the LeedsLive journalist reported that Bielsa ensured he was the last man down the tunnel and didn’t acknowledge any of his players as they walked past him.
Cross, who’s reported on the majority of Leeds’ matches during Bielsa’s reign, has never seen the Argentine do that before.
Despondent
Bielsa knows what he’s just witnessed – the worst performance by any team he’s had in his entire managerial career.
He’s never lost by seven goals before and Leeds have never lost so heavily in the top-flight in the Premier League era.
Man City are very good. But are they good enough to be rolling us over so easily? No.
We can accept losing 3-0 or even 4-0 away at Man City because they can do that. But when you’re losing 7-0, that’s on you.
Bielsa’s always liked to have a small squad at Leeds but his stubbornness on that policy is now costing him as injuries, illnesses and suspensions pile up.
A lot of this is on him. A lot of it is also on Victor Orta and a lot of it is also on the players. But the buck needs to stop with Bielsa this time.
He’s set that team up to play in a very dangerous way against Man City and opted to put square pegs in round holes, rather than rely on young players who haven’t let him down previously in Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Cresswell.
In other Leeds United news, this player scored a wretched 1/10 in our player ratings against Man City.
