Marcelo Bielsa shares worrying new injury update on Bamford after Leeds United v Aston Villa
Marcelo Bielsa admits it’s “impossible to imagine” when Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford will start making progress in his bid to return from injury.
Bamford, 28, has missed almost the entire season and despite recovering twice from issues, he’s now suffered an injured foot.
Speaking to the media after Leeds’ 3-3 draw away at Aston Villa on Wednesday night [9 February], Bielsa shared an update on Bamford’s situation and it doesn’t make for great reading.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Bielsa said: “He has a problem in his foot which is preventing him from running due to the pain. He’s having treatment which isn’t taking the pain away at the moment.
“The first step for his recovery is that he is able to move. That hasn’t happened and it’s impossible to imagine when that’s going to happen.”
Gutted
Each time we hear an update on Bamford’s situation, our fears grow about not being able to see him play again this season.
Bamford has played just once since 17 September and that was in a short cameo appearance against Brentford in December in which he scored and suffered a hamstring injury.

Since getting better from that hamstring issue, he’s not got a foot injury and there’s no timescale upon when he’ll return.
Bielsa’s interview after the 3-3 thriller at Villa Park is worrying and it comes across that the Leeds manager himself is concerned about Bamford’s setback.
If it’s “impossible” to imagine when he’ll be back moving, then there’s no way he’ll be back on the pitch anytime soon – even a return to light training seems miles off for the ex-Middlesbrough striker.
Daniel James scored twice while playing as a striker against Villa on Wednesday but we need an out-and-out forward.
Why didn’t we sign one in January and why isn’t Joe Gelhardt getting more game-time?
In other Leeds United news, an ex-Premier League referee instantly reacted to a major incident in the draw with Villa.
