Marcelo Bielsa sack decision reached in Uruguay crisis meeting amid Leeds return speculation

Marcelo Bielsa held a four-hour meeting with the president of the Uruguayan Football Association regarding the future of his post.

Leeds are assessing their options with Daniel Farke, and an initial list of candidates to replace the German head coach may have started to be compiled.

Bielsa has been tipped for a Leeds return recently, as many Whites fans still hold the former manager in their hearts.

However, following crisis talks, an agreement has been reached over Bielsa‘s future.

Marcelo Bielsa to stay on as Uruguay boss

Leeds are fighting relegation, and the situation is starting to look bleak for Farke and his hopes of remaining in charge for the rest of the season.

Many fans would like Bielsa back at LS11, and Uruguay’s 5-1 loss to the USA in World Cup qualifying has made an Elland Road reunion seem increasingly possible.

On Wednesday, Uruguayan journalist Rodrigo Romano shared an update on X regarding Bielsa’s future.

Romano wrote: “Ignacio Alonso, President of AUF, confirmed that Marcelo Bielsa will continue in the role and will be in charge of Uruguay in the World Cup.

“After a four-hour meeting between the executive and the coach, everything remains the same as the parties agree to continue with the ‘Bielsa Uruguay 2026’ process.”

The news practically rules out a Bielsa return happening, which opens the door even further to one man replacing Farke.

Brendan Rodgers could be the man for Leeds

While it’s not certain how long Farke has left, there’s a slim chance he could yet turn things around.

The Whites have an extremely difficult run of fixtures ahead, and reports suggest that Bielsa isn’t the only candidate Leeds may consider to replace Farke.

Brendan Rodgers has been linked with the Leeds job, and his chances of coming to LS11 have only been increased now that Bielsa is effectively out of the running.

The former Liverpool and Leicester City boss could be a shrewd appointment by Paraag Marathe and Co., but time will tell if he is now at the top of Leeds‘ list of Farke replacements.
