Marcelo Bielsa raves about Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw

Marcelo Bielsa has showered heaps of praise on Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw ahead of their Premier League clash against Burnley.

The 30-year-old midfielder has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and Bielsa doesn’t know what the future holds for him.

However, the Argentine has acknowledged his importance, stating his return to action has been “satisfactory”.

Bielsa said on Friday (31 December), as quoted by TeamTalk: “The extension of Forshaw’s contract is something between the player and the institution. Clearly his return to the club has been satisfactory.

“Whether he’s played as a defensive midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder, he’s offered solutions. In the absence of Kalvin Phillips, he has helped us resolve things.”

Should Leeds offer him a new contract?

The 30-year-old missed a lot of games during the promotion campaign and as well as last season due to a serious hip injury.

He had to navigate through minor injury issues as well as Marcelo Bielsa gradually integrated him into the squad.

Forshaw made his first start since August 2019 in the 1-1 draw against Leicester City, and he was “superb” during the game.

Bielsa is absolutely spot on about him. He has played as a defensive midfielder as also as a box-to-box central midfielder this season and has excelled in both roles.

In the absence of Kalvin Phillips, Forshaw has been marshalling the midfield. He has made eight starts already, and the former Boro midfielder is expected to feature more with Phillips set to be out till March.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it would be ideal for everyone if Leeds offer him just a one-year extension.

His quality is undeniable and he has got a few good years left in him. It will be interesting to see how Leeds handles his contract situation.
