Marcelo Bielsa may rest Adam Forshaw for Leeds United clash v Crystal Palace

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa may rest midfielder Adam Forshaw against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old returned to action last month after spending two years on the sidelines with a hip injury that required multiple surgeries.

His performances have not shown any hint of rust, with Micah Richards and Jermaine Beckford among those who have been full of praise for Forshaw in recent weeks.

However, Bielsa could look to manage the midfielder’s minutes as the busy Christmas period begins.

In his press conference ahead of the clash against Palace, the Whites boss was asked whether Forshaw would be able to play three games in the space of a week.

As relayed via Leeds Live, he replied: “I can’t say for certain as he hasn’t played two games in four days in a very long time.”

Cautionary approach

Bielsa might be wise to act with caution when selecting Forshaw, as the last thing Leeds want is for the midfielder to be back on the sidelines.

He has started the last three matches in succession, seeing out the full game for the first time this season against Brighton on Saturday.

However there has not been such an immediate turnaround between fixtures until this week.

Forshaw covered more ground than anyone else on the pitch at the Amex Stadium [via LeedsLive], a feat for anyone in any game, let alone when you are playing in Bielsa’s high intensity system.

Will he be able to replicate such high standards a little over 72 hours on?

Leeds’ injury issues are beginning to ease, so there are players who can step in to fill Forshaw’s boots – whether that is Kalvin Phillips moving back into midfield from central defence or Mateusz Klich or Jamie Shackleton coming in to start.

In other Leeds United news, the future of one Whites youngster is up in the air, with discussions to take place soon.
