Marcelo Bielsa impressed with refereeing in Leeds United v Everton

Marcelo Bielsa was impressed with the refereeing as Leeds United came from behind twice to hold Everton to a 2-2 draw at Elland Road on Saturday.

The Whites attempted to bounce back from last weekend’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford, but they were only able to get one point after a tough clash with the Toffees.

Bielsa is hoping the change in officiating would benefit his side, hinting that this season’s lenient refereeing could come in handy.

“Referees seem more lenient this season,” the Leeds boss said after the game (via Daily Mail).

“We are quick and if there are less stops, this could be good.”

The Premier League have made some major changes to some of their officiating for the new season, with VAR also improving over the course of the last two matchdays.

For a team that often plays on the front foot, frequent stops and interruptions often zap the energy and urgency out of the team’s drive.

Despite having to come back twice, Leeds were able to dominate for larger spells during the game, and we hope the officiating can continue to get better.

Bielsa knows less stops would benefit us, and that could come as a huge boost in our bid to improve on last term’s ninth-placed finish this season.

Leeds were also a different team with the fans back at Elland Road in full capacity, and that will surely make our performances better too this term and going forward.

Bielsa is pleased with both, and that speaks volumes.

The Whites have everything it takes to push for a top-seven finish this season, and the return of the fans and lenient refereeing could help make that possible.
