Marc Roca to exit Leeds United as advanced Real Betis talks take place

Marc Roca is set to depart exit Leeds United and join La Liga side Real Betis on loan for the 2023/24 season, according to Football League World.

It’s believed the 26-year-old’s departure has been on the cards since Leeds’ relegation to the Championship (FLW, 10 June).

The Spaniard is now set to return to his homeland with negotiations with Real Betis now at an advanced stage.

It’s unclear whether the deal will have a buy option.

Good move

This is a good move for all concerned. The Spaniard made a good start to life at Elland Road but was a victim of the bad run of form which engulfed Jesse Marsch’s side at the start of 2023. A loan back to Spain will allow Roca to play European football and could potentially make him a better player when he returns to West Yorkshire.

His career at Leeds United is by no means over. He’s a talented technician, and if Leeds can secure automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt, there’s no reason why he can’t come back and make an impression.

With the 49ers about to take charge, smart footballing decisions will have to be made over the next couple of months. Moving players out quickly and ensuring the right characters remain will be essential.

The Championship is shaping up to be a daunting task during the 2022/23 season. The managerial appointment will be absolutely key for Leeds moving forward.

In other Leeds United news, a former Elland Road figure is emerging as a “serious contender” for the manager’s job.
