Marathe silence deafening as Sky Sports snubbed amid Farke sack latest

Paraag Marathe has remained coy over Daniel Farke despite Leeds United considering parting ways with him.

Farke lived up to his reputation as a promotion specialist after sealing Leeds‘ ticket back to the Premier League on Easter Monday (21 April).

However, the German tactician now faces an uncertain future at Elland Road, as the Whites ponder sacking him due to concerns over his track record in the top flight.

Marathe flew in from San Francisco ahead of the game against Bristol City on Monday (28 April) with a view to holding talks with the former Norwich manager over his future.

Marathe rejects Sky Sports interview at Elland Road

Marathe was in attendance as Leeds earned a thumping 4-0 victory over Bristol at Elland Road on Monday.

The 49ers chief was even supposed to conduct an interview with Sky Sports, but backed out at the 11th hour, much to the disappointment of many.

Ian Herbert believes that it was the right opportunity for Marathe to publicly express his support towards Farke amid all the speculation about his future.

The journalist is not a fan of the Leeds chairman snubbing the pre-agreed interview and described his silence as ‘deafening’.

“It didn’t seem hugely encouraging when Paraag Marathe, the Leeds chairman, did not undertake an interview with Sky Sports on Monday which the broadcaster said he had originally committed to”, Herbert wrote in his column on the Mail website (29 April).

“That had been the chance to commit publicly to Farke. The silence was deafening.”

Farke certain to be sacked by Leeds

It is highly probable that Marathe backed out of his interview with Sky Sports to avoid having to answer questions about Farke’s future.

Members of 49ers Enterprises have privately expressed concerns over the 48-year-old’s ability to lead Leeds in the Premier League.

This is because Farke was relegated from the top flight with Norwich in the 2019-20 season. Although he managed to bring them back up the following year, he soon lost his job.

Leeds have already begun the hunt for a replacement for the Borussia Monchengladbach boss.

They have sounded Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Davide Ancelotti and Roger Schmidt.

Meanwhile, Marathe wants to talk to Farke to understand how he plans to approach a season in the Premier League before making a final decision.

Either way, the writing appears to be on the wall for the Leeds manager.
