Many Leeds fans slam EFL boss over 'Brainless', 'Stupid' claim, one fan compares to Donald Trump

Leeds United fans have blasted Preston boss Alex Neil for supporting a transfer embargo being enforced against the Championship leaders.

In a bid to avoid furloughing non-playing staff, Leeds’ squad and senior management all agreed to have their wages deferred until football is back underway.

While that has seemed like quite a noble thing to do, there have been some who have taken issue with that approach.

One person who isn’t happy is the manager of sixth-placed Preston.

Neil has been quoted by LancsLive as saying:”If people are taking wage cuts or deferrals then people are putting cases forward that they shouldn’t be allowed to sign any other players.

“Because if they can’t currently pay the players they have got then why should they then be allowed to use the money they have deferred from wages to then invest in their squad to bring better or more players in?

“I don’t think that clubs who have run their finances in an organised and good manner should then be hampered and hamstrung when other teams are maybe slashing wages and then the window opens and we get out-bid for a player that they have brought with money that they have deferred from another player.

“That cannot be fair. So it will be really interesting to see how that comes out in the wash.”

Neil’s claim about Leeds has, understandably, incurred the wrath of the Elland Road faithful.

Leeds are deferring wages, which means that the players will be owed what they have missed out on as soon as the season can reconvene and they are doing their jobs in full again.

None of the money Leeds are saving right now is going to go towards signing new players and even if it did, the Whites are likely to be in the Premier League for the next transfer window and Preston probably won’t be.

Leeds’ approach during this period should be applauded, not derided like it has been by Neil and that is why so many fans have taken to Twitter to blast the Preston boss.

One has even said his comments are like something US President Donald Trump would say.
