Many Leeds fans react as Phil Hay tweets about 'Phenomenal' Brentford ace: 'We need to sign him'

Brentford might be piling the pressure on Leeds United in the promotion race but that hasn’t stopped fans from hailing Said Benrahma’s form at Griffin Park this season.

Benrahma, 24, has scored 16 goals and supplied nine assists in 40 Championship appearances for the Bees this term, with two of those goals coming on Saturday as Thomas Frank’s side won 3-1 at Derby County.

The Algerian’s second goal was a goal of the season contender as he cut inside from the left before curling a shot into the top corner of Ben Hamer’s goal.

He really is a special talent.

The Athletic’s Leeds journalist Phil Hay wasn’t afraid to applaud Benrahama for his performance at Pride Park, saying that the former Nice attacker is “some player” before praising the scouting system in West London.

That led to a glut of replies from Leeds fans, ranging from those who agree with Hay’s take on Benrahama to those who want to see Victor Orta launch a move for the in-form attacker once the transfer window re-opens.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Imagine how good Marcelo Bielsa could make Benrahama in the Premier League – if Leeds get there.

As Brentford swept aside Derby on Saturday, Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling claimed that no matter what, Benrahama will be a Premier League player next season, whether that’s with the Bees or not.

If they miss out on promotion – and that seems unlikely given the form they’re in – we would love to see at least an effort to sign the Algerian forward.
