Many Leeds fans blast 29y/o transfer story: ‘Insanity’, ‘Would rather have Joe Exotic’

Leeds United fans have blasted a transfer report which claims that the club is keen to sign Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala.

The 29-year-old’s contract is currently set to expire at the end of June, meaning that he would be available for a club like Leeds to sign him on a free transfer.

The Daily Star reported this week that the Whites will plan to sign Ayala – regardless of whether or not they win promotion to the Premier League.

Ayala is, clearly, not a popular player among Leeds supporters.

However the Spanish centre-back is still someone who has plenty of Premier League and Championship experience and could come in handy at Elland Road if Marcelo Bielsa needs to sign back-up options for his defence.

Gaetano Berardi’s contract expires in June and if that isn’t renewed than Ayala could be seen as a replacement for the one-time Switzerland international.

Still, Leeds fans are hoping that this transfer does not happen with one even claiming he would rather see the club sign Tiger King star Joe Exotic than the Middlesbrough man.

Luckily for these Leeds United supporters, The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has since reported that it’s unlikely the club will pursue a deal for Ayala.

The ex-Yorkshire Evening Post reporter admits that it would be a “strange” signing but – as all Leeds supporters are aware – strange things always seem to happen at Elland Road.
