Manor Solomon frustrations emerge after what Graham Smyth saw him do in Leeds United v QPR

Graham Smyth believes Manor Solomon is “trying too hard” after watching the Leeds United winger become frustrated against QPR on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has missed several matches through injury recently and has been unable to rediscover the bright spark he brought with him from Tottenham after joining on loan this summer.

Solomon grabbed an assist during his debut for the Whites, helping Daniel Farke’s side to a 2-0 win over Hull City, but has produced little in the final third since that moment in August.

Writing via the Yorkshire Evening Post [10 November], Smyth said: “The frustration is so evident in his body language at times. It just isn’t happening at present.

“He’s trying too hard or he’s trying things that don’t quite fit with what his team-mates are doing. He has the quality to be a difference maker at this level but it’s not evident right now.”

Leeds United to end Manor Solomon’s loan deal early?

Solomon has been linked with an early return to Spurs in January, and given his injury concerns and a massive drop in form, it does not come as a total surprise.

The Whites decided to send Djed Spence back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January last season, having struggled for minutes at Elland Road, but it is difficult to see a similar situation occurring.

There has been plenty of talk about the Israeli international, with Farke remaining patient with the winger, and he can be even more so after Dan James’ superb return from injury.

Solomon has shown his abilities to be a Premier League-quality winger with some of his trickery and skill on the ball, and the main issue right now seems to be his level of confidence.

That can certainly be something difficult to restore in a player, especially if the goals and assists are not flowing alongside such attacking teammates, but there is plenty of the season remaining.

The winger could be a very important player as Leeds aim to secure promotion to the Premier League this term, but he needs to improve quickly as concerns grow at Elland Road.
