Manchester United team news update for Premier League showdown v Leeds United

Manchester United will be without seven players for their Premier League clash against Leeds United, according to injury expert, Ben Dinnery.

Mason Greenwood is currently unavailable for selection for Erik ten Hag’s side ahead of the clash on Wednesday evening (8 February), with Anthony Martial also “ruled out” (Premier injuries website).

Dinnery expects Brazilian winger Anthony to return on 12 February meaning he will miss the fixture at Old Trafford. Casemiro is suspended after being sent off against Crystal Palace, with Scott McTominay also not set to return for a couple more weeks.

Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are both long-term absentees from United’s squad and will miss both games against the Whites.

Fresh approach

Had Jesse Marsch been in charge for this fixture then there would’ve been a very different feel surrounding the club. The performance against Nottingham Forest was yet another example of Leeds huffing and puffing, but ultimately falling short after a defensive lapse.

The board have clearly made the right call in relieving the American of his job at Elland Road. This group of players shouldn’t be languishing near the bottom of the table at present. Sadly, it was hard to see how Leeds would change their current collision course with the Championship with Marsch in charge.

They now head to Old Trafford with the shackles well and truly off. There’s no expectation on the players to go and pick up a positive result, and this could well lead to them heading into the fixture with more freedom and license to express themselves.

With United twice just in a matter of days, this could prove to be a pivotal part of the season ahead of two crunch games against Southampton and Everton.
