Manager delivers big-money verdict as Leeds United want to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Ex Doncaster Rovers manager Gary McSheffrey has delivered a transfer verdict on Leeds United or Middlesbrough signing Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres.

He believes that if the Swede is to leave his club this summer, it will be for a big Championship club and name-dropped the two sides.

However, the former Leeds striker believes that it will take big money for either team to secure the services of the Sweden international.

He told the Coventry Telegraph [19 June, Page 38, who report that an exit is on the cards this summer, “If it’s one of the bigger Championship clubs like a Leeds or a Middlesbrough unless it’s mega money for Coventry then I am not sure it would be the right move for him, although it might be financially good for him.

“I know there’s firm interest and there will be a couple of clubs who have come down that will want him, the likes of Leeds United, who can still afford to pay him good money.”

Makes sense

Gyokeres scored goals for fun this past season and is among the top players in the Championship – a league Leeds will want to win or finish second in next season.

He scored 21 goals in the Championship and provided another 12 assists – playing a pivotal role in guiding his side to the play-offs.

Leeds have been interested in signing him for a while and they cannot rely on Patrick Bamford after his disastrous last two seasons.

Leeds United

Rodrigo too, could be on the move, as he’s back in the running for Spain and playing top flight football will boost his chances of being a regular ahead of the EUROs.

It remains to be seen if the new Leeds manager rates Gyokeres enough to sanction a big-money move for him this summer.

Given interest from clubs like Sporting Lisbon as well, he’s not going to come cheap so they have to act quickly in order to get this deal over the line.

In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has been left stunned as Phil Hay has dropped a fresh update on who the Whites are considering bringing in as manager this summer.
