Big Leeds transfer development reported as player tells club he wants to leave & play for Bielsa
Ryan Kent has said that he wants to join Leeds United and play for Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League, according to 90min.com.
Leeds have had a bid – thought to be for £10m – rejected but the door was left open after Steven Gerrard said Leeds had the power to force a move through.
And Leeds are set to try again with a £14m bid this week that would double Kent’s salary to £50k-a-week.
The 90min report claims that Bielsa is convinced that Kent is a future England international and states, “A source has confirmed to 90min that Leeds are confident of striking a deal.”
Match fit and ready to go
If this is accurate then a deal for Kent could come about fairly quickly.
And why wouldn’t Kent want to play in the Premier League for Leeds rather than in the Premiership for Rangers?
That’s without taking into account a deal that would double his wages to £50k-a-week.
That’s the sort of level of salary that Rangers would really struggle to match.
Kent is under contract until 2023 but it seems that it’s just a case of Leeds finding the right price to get the attacker to Elland Road.
One big plus point over Kent is that he would be 100% match fit, having played five times for Rangers already this season.
If he was to join this week, he’d still have over two weeks under Bielsa before the Premier League season kicks off on September 12.
Leeds face Liverpool at Anfield and will need all the help they can get for their first game back in the top flight for over 16 years.
