‘Madness, literally unbelievable’ – Adrian Durham staggered by what he saw in Leeds win v Stoke
Adrian Durham was baffled by how cynical Tommy Smith’s foul was to concede a penalty as Leeds United beat Stoke 5-0 on Thursday evening.
With Helder Costa seemingly running the ball out wide, Smith lunged in and wiped the winger out inside the corner of the penalty area.
TalkSPORT host Durham could not believe what he saw from Smith and could not hide his disbelief on live radio after Mateusz Klich converted the resulting penalty.
“It’s a ridiculous foul,” said Durham on talkSPORT on Thursday [05:45pm].
“It’s absolute madness from him. It’s literally unbelievable that he’s gone and done that. Incredible.
“Almost got to half-time as well and Klich’s rolled the penalty in.”
Durham’s spot on.
Although we’re Leeds fans and were delighted to see the penalty, what must Stoke fans have made of that moment of madness by Smith?
The 28-year-old has 169 Championship appearances under his belt so he should know a lot better than to be wiping out players like that when there really isn’t any danger.
Maybe it is because he is a former Huddersfield player and wanted to leave his mark on one of Leeds’ players? That’s just about the only explanation we can think of right now to explain his stupid foul.
Still, we aren’t complaining about it because that rush of blood to the head opened the floodgates for Leeds to secure a massive 5-0 win.
Marcelo Bielsa’s seen his side’s goal difference improve massively thanks to Stoke and they now hold an extra advantage over second-placed West Brom as Leeds’ goal difference is now one better.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay says that Sky Sports are almost certain to move this fixture.
