‘Madness’, ‘Let the lawyers fight this’ – These Leeds fans react as Augustin mystery deepens

According to Transfermarkt, Jean-Kevin Augustin’s loan has expired at Leeds United and there’s been no news that it’s going to be extended.

And varying different reports and a non-committal response from Marcelo Bielsa has just increased the mystery surrounding the player.

The Athletic reported last night that it “understands that his loan won’t be extended to the end of the season.” Phil Hay is rarely wrong on Leeds’ stuff.

However, according to Leeds Live journalist, Leeds have until Friday to extend his loan.

It’s certainly not a ringing endorsement for Augustin and it would seem that he’s set to play no more part in the push for promotion this season.

To be fair he hasn’t played much of a part to date, with just three cameo appearances (and no goals) totalling 48 minutes.

The problem is that Leeds are still short up front and last night’s 1-1 draw with Luton showed how badly they need a striker who can come off the bench.

The fact that Leeds are top of the Championship and have no back-up for a striker who’s misfiring is very worrying – and plenty of Leeds fans made their voices heard about it on Twitter.

Some fans want clarification from Leeds and can’t believe that the club has let him go for the sake of a month’s wages.

However, there are two issues here. If he’s not fit, what’s the point in paying money for him to sit in Leeds?

Secondly, if Leeds want to get out of the obligation to purchase him – and some Leeds fans think this is the right thing to do – then they will be in deep discussions with RB Leipzig and the player. Until that’s sorted it’s unlikely we’ll get any official clarification.

Meanwhile, here are the best reactions from concerned Leeds fans…
