Tony Dorigo has compared Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips to David Batty after his shining start to life in the Premier League.
The LUTV pundit claimed that the squad used to appreciate the role of Batty at Elland Road, and believes the current side are exactly the same.
Dorigo suggests that those type of players never get the same headlines, but Phillips is deservedly getting numerous accolades for his rise to the top in West Yorkshire.
Speaking on the LUTV Big Match Preview show, Dorigo made a fitting comparison for the Yorkshire Pirlo and his development.
“As a team-mate, I remember when David Batty was in the side – we appreciated him so, so much, how important he was and I think it’s the same for Kalvin,” he said.
“Everyone knows how important he is, and it’s good that he’s getting the accolades and rightly so because those numbers are amazing.”
Phillips is a superstar, even he knows that.
The 24-year-old was superb against Arsenal, topping the charts in nearly every single category for his performance.
The Yorkshire Pirlo had 106 touches of the ball, made 85 accurate passes and also 11 recoveries – the most of any player on the pitch.
Batty is often the forgotten man when looking back at some of the players of the glory days, but one thing for certain, the name on every fan’s lips around West Yorkshire, is and will be Phillips for a very long time.
