Luton v Leeds United: Patrick Bamford and Max Wober injury twist emerges

Leeds United will be hoping to return to winning ways in the EFL Championship when they take on Luton Town on Saturday.

Daniel Farke will want his side to pick up maximum points at Kenilworth Road against the division’s second-worst team.

They’re no longer in pole position to secure promotion, although they still remain in the automatic promotion spots.

Graham Smyth issues Patrick Bamford and Max Wober injury update

Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth issued an update on Patrick Bamford and Max Wober ahead of the game on 5 April.

He told the Inside Elland Road podcast: “I think they (Bamford and Max Wober, after returning to training) are available.

“I certainly think Bamford is available. From what I hear, he has been in training and looking decent in training over the last couple of weeks.”

Bamford and Wober’s return to senior training is a massive boost for Leeds as they chase automatic promotion with seven games left in the Championship season.

Bamford, sidelined since a New Year’s Day hamstring injury, and Wober, recovering from a knee issue, offer Farke valuable options amid a stuttering attack.

Mateo Joseph has managed just three goals all season, while Joel Piroe’s five-game drought has blunted Leeds’ edge.

With no other injury concerns, their availability for the crucial clash against Luton Town is timely, especially after a lacklustre draw with Swansea.

Leeds United likely to be cautious with Bamford and Wober

However, despite their progress, with Bamford looking sharp in training, Leeds are unlikely to risk either player for more than 30 minutes.

The striker’s injury-plagued history, including his failure to score or start in the league this term, demands caution to avoid aggravating his hamstring.

Similarly, Wober’s knee issue requires careful management to ensure his defensive solidity isn’t compromised long-term.

Farke, known for his measured approach, will likely ease them back, perhaps as substitutes, to bolster a side already set for changes, with Karl Darlow, Junior Firpo and Ao Tanaka expected to start.

Smyth’s optimism about their form is encouraging, but Leeds’ priority is sustaining momentum, not rushing recoveries.

With Luton fighting relegation, the duo’s experience could prove decisive off the bench, offering impact without overexertion.

Their cameos could lift the squad, but full reintegration will wait as promotion hinges on calculated risks, not reckless gambles.
