Luke Thomas would ‘fit the bill’ at Leeds United as Leicester City left-back loan at Sheffield United is terminated

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

Luke Thomas is a “good player” and would “fit the bill” at Leeds United but Leicester City are unlikely to want to do business with the club, according to Paul Robinson.

Sheffield United confirmed on Friday evening (12 January) that the left-back’s loan with the Blades had been terminated following a mutual agreement with the Foxes, potentially making him available for an Elland Road switch after the Whites twice attempted to bring him in during the summer window according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

But with the two sides both vying for automatic promotion back to the Premier League former Leeds and England keeper Robinson doesn’t see a deal being possible, as Leicester won’t want to help out a rival.

With Sam Byram and Junior Firpo both regular injury concerns for Daniel Farke left-back is thought to be a priority in the January transfer window.

But despite the opportune timing of Thomas, 22, suddenly becoming available again Robinson expects the Whites to need to find help elsewhere before the deadline.

He exclusively told MOT Leeds News: “Listen, left-back is an area they may look at in January, it’s an area they may look to strengthen.

“But I can’t see it happening. Leicester and Leeds, they’re vying for automatic promotion.

Leeds United

“It’s very, very unlikely that these clubs will do business. You’re not going to give one of your main rivals a leg up and a helping hand.

“Yes he’s a good player and yes he would fit the bill as to what Leeds need.

“But as far as the two clubs are concerned, where they are in the league, a lower-half Championship move for him to get football I can see.

“But I can’t see Leicester giving Leeds any of their players to be honest.”

In other Leeds United news, a player worth eight-figures is under consideration to join Farke’s squad and he has been tipped to be “sensational” for the German.
