Luke Humphries makes Leeds United promotion claim after Swansea City win

Luke Humphries is backing Leeds United for promotion back to the Premier League this year after the dramatic win over Swansea City.

Leeds faced Swansea on Sunday [24 November] in a thrilling game that ended 4-3 in the Whites’ favour thanks to a 91st-minute winner.

The victory put Daniel Farke’s men at the top of the Championship as they seek promotion back to the top flight. However, they are level on points with Sunderland and Sheffield United, keeping things very tight.

Humphries, who is a Leeds fan, caught the end of the game after beating Luke Littler in the Players’ Championship Final and when speaking to TalkSPORT [25 November, 13:43pm] admitted it could be his side’s year.

“I came off when they scored that sixth goal and it was 3-3 and I was thinking oh you know we’ve thrown away three points again here and you know,” he said.

“It was a brilliant finish to the game when Willy [Gnonto] scored that last goal and it’s put us top of the table and I think that we’re in a great position to go up this year.

“But there’s no team putting their hand up at the moment in the Championship. There’s no one going like they were last year with Leicester and Ipswich going we’re the team to beat, so it’s open for anyone to be honest.

“But I think with Leeds’ team, I think they’ve got a great team unit and you know, they stand a great chance to get back up to the Premier League.”

Promotion back to Premier League very much on for Leeds United

As Humphries alluded to, this Championship title race is already proving to be an exciting affair and given how close it is, we could well see this continue until the end of the season.

Leeds’ victory against Swansea was a great display from Farke’s men and it convinces you of their ability to keep going up until the final minute to produce these exciting moments and get the results they need.

Furthermore, you can see a lot of cohesion from the sidelines onto the pitch at Elland Road, which is essential for a side looking for promotion as it ensures that smooth continuation with a side all prepared when it comes to their roles and responsibilities.

It does look like it will be a close affair this season with no one running away with the title yet, but you definitely expect to see the Whites up there competing until the final day of the campaign.
