Luke Ayling sends two-word message to Tyler Adams as Leeds United ace shines v England
Luke Ayling has sent Leeds United teammate Tyler Adams a two-word message following his masterful midfield display against England in the World Cup.
Adams started in the middle of the park for the US – as well as being named captain by coach Gregg Berhalter – and repaid this faith by leading his country to a much-deserved point against pre-tournament favourites England.
USA will now face Iran in their final Group B match – with all four teams still able to qualify for the last 16 of the World Cup.
The 23-year-old’s performance drew praise from many players and pundits, and Leeds teammate Ayling was in awe of the American’s display on Friday 25 November.
It was really a coming-of-age performance from Adams last night, who cemented his status as one of Europe’s brightest prospects with a brilliant display.
The 23-year-old was at the heart of every promising U.S. attack and used his position at the base of the midfield to spring attacks on the English.
But it was his work off the ball which was even more impressive, as the Leeds star stuck to Mason Mount like a limpet all night long and didn’t allow England to reach their free-flowing best.
In a match-up against Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice – two of Europe’s most talented midfielders – Adams came out a resounding winner as he asserted his dominance on the game and the Three Lions midfield faded into obscurity.
If Adams can replicate this performance against Iran, nothing but a U.S. win seems likely – a win which could cause a seismic shift in the valuation of ‘soccer’ in America.
