Leeds ace named EFL on Quest C’Ship Player of the Week, Luke Ayling jokingly responds
Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts has been named as the EFL on Quest Championship Player of the Week.
The Welsh international only featured for 23 minutes in the 4-0 victory against Hull City but managed to score two goals at the KCOM Stadium in front of the away end.
Roberts managed to beat Derby’s Chris Martin and Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant to the award after picking up 77.7% of the 11,569 fan votes on Twitter.
Leeds defender Luke Ayling opened the scoring in the Yorkshire derby demolition job, albeit a massive deflection, a goal that set the Whites well on their way to a dominating win.
Ayling responded to the news that Roberts picked up a player of the week award despite only playing 23 minutes – joking on his personal Twitter account that he fully deserved the award.
“Well deserved if you ask me,” he wrote on Monday afternoon.
The truth of the matter is no matter who it is if a Leeds player appears on one of these polls on social media, 99.9% of the time they will win.
Roberts was very impressive in his cameo, but he wouldn’t have expected to pick up any sort of reward for his efforts. His two goals came from as many shots as the 21-year-old gave the Whites an efficiency we have been crying out for.
Anyone of Leeds’ squad could have won the award on that basis. Roberts also helped in defence which was impressive on Saturday, completing a tackle and two clearances according to WhoScored – something which proves he could replicate the work rate of Patrick Bamford.
