Luke Ayling issues bold statement after Manchester City 7 Leeds United 0

Luke Ayling believes that Leeds United simply couldn’t get near Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Speaking to the BBC, the 30-year-old tried to explain the Whites’ 7-0 thrashing to City.

Leeds were absolutely taken apart by Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad, and it seems as if the Whites just weren’t good enough, while Ayling also suggests that the tactics didn’t work.

He said: “We just couldn’t get near them; they were just too good on the day.

“We tried to change a few things, but that didn’t work, and it ended up seven.

“These things do happen in football, and it’s not very nice when it happens.”

An awful night for the Whites.

Leeds have had a few thrashings in their time back in the Premier League, mainly by Manchester United.

However, this felt very different. City were in total cruise control from the first minute to the last, and Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics didn’t work.

Ayling even suggests that the Whites got something very wrong, and in the end, it was a total humiliation for the Whites.

Things are unlikely to get any easier for Leeds either, with the club set to face Arsenal and Liverpool next.

So, they have to regroup and go again; perhaps it is time for Bielsa to come up with a slightly more reserved way of playing because injuries have badly exposed the squad.

Ayling is brutally honest here about this match, and it will be intriguing to see how Leeds bounce back from such a damaging defeat.

Things can only get better from here, but Leeds have to change something.
