Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh face Elland Road fight as Leeds United eye Iván Fresneda
Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh’s Leeds United futures are certainly up in the air at the moment – and the latest update to emerge is not good news for the pair.
Spanish news outlet AS report (14 December) that Leeds have joined a host of Premier League clubs in making a move for 18-year-old Iván Fresneda, with it being suggested a “frantic” hunt is set to take place for the Real Valladolid right back.
Fresneda is currently available for £25.8million, however, it’s understood that his release clause will skyrocket to £38.7million, should he make 22 appearances in the 2022/23 season. Therefore, a January move would make the most sense for any potential suitor.
Considering Leeds already have three right-backs on their books, it’s surprising to see them linked with another, however, with Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh’s futures up in the air, links to Fresneda could well indicate that the club are preparing for the pair leaving Elland Road in the near future.
Fresneda looks like a long shot at the moment considering the number of clubs who are interested, however, the Whites’ interest should still indicate that they’re preparing for one or two departures in the right-back area.
TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey suggested (16 November) that there’s interest in Ayling, with his future in West Yorkshire remaining uncertain. The 31-year-old’s deal ends in the summer of 2023, and he has yet to be offered an extension.
Questions have also emerged about Drameh, with Newcastle United keeping a keen eye on the 21-year-old, as Eddie Howe eyes a younger right-back as a backup to Kieran Trippier (90min, 8 December).
Despite Leeds being well-stocked in the right-back position, things could change very quickly and the links to Fresneda could show the club preparing for one or two exits.
