Luis Sinisterra ‘late twist’ as Leeds United ‘can’t stand in his way’ in Bournemouth talks amid legal issue – Ben Jacobs

Luis Sinisterra could still leave Leeds United because they “ultimately can’t stand in his way” amid an “agreement” with Bournemouth, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS journalist told GIVEMESPORT on 1 September that there is “debate legally” over whether there is still a valid release clause in the Colombian’s contract with a move supposedly now agreed for him to leave to the Cherries in a “late twist”, since the Whites had wanted him to stay.

Fabrizio Romano had reported on deadline day that the winger was on his way to the Premier League club on loan before Phil Hay of The Athletic disputed that the clubs had reached an agreement, but Jacobs seems to believe if he wants to go he can.

Jacobs said: “I’m also told that there’s been an agreement between Bournemouth and Leeds for Sinisterra, which is a late twist in some ways, because Leeds were quite hopeful of keeping hold of him.

“But we’ve known for a while that the player was very keen to get Premier League football, and because Leeds have had a flurry of business now, they ultimately can’t stand in his way.

“There was also some debate legally over whether Sinisterra did or did not have an active release clause.”

Confusion

It looks clear that Leeds United want to keep the 24-year-old but given the choice he would be heading back to the Premier League, but beyond that the situation is anything but clear.

Bournemouth have regularly proven a thorn in the Whites’ side this summer, having beaten them to Andoni Iraola, hijacked Daniel Farke’s move for Max Aarons and also signed Tyler Adams.

There was a similar argument over the American’s release clause before he left, with the Cherries ending up paying over the £20m fee to get the deal done [The Athletic, 20 August].

All the Leeds players’ relegation release clauses were thought to have expired in the middle of August [Phil Hay, 1 September].

But if Bournemouth are still trying to secure a loan deal on deadline day, and the player is still apparently hoping to make the move, there must be some doubt over that otherwise they would all be wasting their time.

As soon as a matter like this becomes a legal dispute then it usually slows everything down, so it would be a surprise if there was a resolution in time for the deadline.

But amid conflicting reports from various sources there is certainly some action towards a move, and if it is actually the case that the Whites can’t prevent Sinisterra from going then the squad may be set for a sizeable late blow.

In other Leeds United news, as many as three incoming deals are still the “aim” at Elland Road on deadline day.
