Luis Sinisterra and Rodrigo fitness news emerges ahead of Leeds United clash v Arsenal as Phil Hay speaks out

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has shared a fitness update on Luis Sinisterra and Rodrigo ahead of Arsenal hosting Leeds United at The Emirates.

Sinisterra has been recovering from a muscle injury he sustained during the 2-2 draw against Manchester United and was an unused substitute against Wolves.

Rodrigo has made two substitute appearances since recovering from an ankle injury and Hay has claimed both players are now close to full fitness ahead of the trip to North London (1 April).

“He [Sinisterra] should be [close to fitness],” said Hay (Phil Hay Show, 11m 37s, 31 March).

“And the plan through these two weeks was to get Rodrigo up to the points where he could start as well.

“So he might well be in the frame to be there from the outset against Arsenal on Saturday.”

Boost

This should certainly come as a big boost to Leeds. Rodrigo has been key to the Whites’ success this season and having a proven goalscorer is a huge advantage in their battle to avoid relegation.

Sinisterra will also be hoping to put his injury issues behind him and really kick on in West Yorkshire. The Colombian has been blighted by injury since his summer move and could prove to be an important player for Javi Gracia during the run-in.

The fixture against Arsenal is somewhat of a free hit for Leeds. Nobody will be expecting anything from the clash against the league leaders. They can head to North London with the shackles somewhat off, which could play into their hands.

Staying defensively resolute and keeping the score at 0-0 for as long as possible is a must. An early goal for the Gunners could be a hammer blow. Gracia will be extremely disappointed with Willy Gnonto’s injury setback. The Italian could’ve been a superb outlet for Leeds on the counterattack against Mikel Arteta’s side.
