Lucas Radebe: Marcelo Bielsa has transformed Leeds duo into ‘Absolutely amazing’ players
Lucas Radebe has hailed Marcelo Bielsa for overseeing the transformation of Leeds United stars, and England hopefuls, Kalvin Phillips and Ben White.
Phillips, 24, and White, 22, have been stand-out players for Leeds this season and unsurprisingly, Gareth Southgate has recently spoken out to say that they are under consideration for England call-ups in the future.
Unfortunately, White isn’t Leeds’ player and will return to Brighton at the end of the season. What happens from there remains to be seen with the defender being linked with top Premier League clubs and Brighton in a battle against relegation.
As for Phillips, he’s Leeds through and through and the only way we don’t see him being at Elland Road next season is if Bielsa’s side somehow misses out on promotion.
Radebe has been watching Phillips and White closely this season and he is blown away by how much they have come on under Bielsa’s leadership.
“I have been there and watched some of the games and I have been impressed with how they played. I think ‘Kalvin Phillips and Ben White…where did they come from?’,” Radebe said, as quoted by LeedsLive.
“I think Bielsa has made them the players they are today, absolutely amazing. I see the England managers talking about those players and it makes me really proud.
“I think it will lift the spirit of the club and the fans and it shows they deserve to be in the squad come the national team games.
“To be honest, It’s great for Leeds United and I am impressed with what they have come up with until now.”
We’d love to see Phillips and White play for England, even if White is no longer a Leeds United player by the time that happens.
Let’s face it, from what we’ve seen this season, White would not look too out of place at a top Premier League club – the Championship has been way too easy for him this term.
That’s not to say that White should never have joined Leeds, this season was crucial for his development.
But the next team White plays for is unlikely to be one that Leeds fans throw their support behind so seeing him wearing the Three Lions is going to be a chance to relive the memories of this season.
In other Leeds United news, this is what will happen if numerous Leeds players test positive once the season is back underway.
