Lucas Radebe breaks silence on Leeds United celebrations as ‘glory’ message sent

Lucas Radebe has broken his silence on Leeds United winning the Championship and their subsequent celebrations.

Over 150,000 Leeds fans took to the streets on Monday (5 May) as the Whites celebrated their Championship triumph with an open-top bus parade.

The celebrations went late into the night, with players, including Patrick Bamford, seen singing songs along with fans during the party.

Meanwhile, Ethan Ampadu appeared to get carried away by the celebrations, as he was seen wearing a traffic cone over his head at one point and singing a crude chant about Wilfried Gnonto at another.

Radebe admits Leeds United regret

Some iconic Leeds players were also part of the celebrations on Monday, with Eddie Gray spotted singing along with the fans during the parade.

Meanwhile, Dominic Matteo was also a part of the open-top bus parade and later took to social media to express his delight at still being a part of the West Yorkshire outfit.

“Still can’t get over this team, this city, the people of Leeds. We are united!”, Matteo wrote on Instagram (6 May).

However, one person who Leeds fans would have loved to see be a part of the celebrations is Radebe.

The Chief established himself as a fan favourite during his 11-year spell at Elland Road between 1994 and 2005, but did not have the joy of celebrating a trophy.

He expressed his regret about the same, as he took to social media to tip his hat to the current Leeds United squad for their achievement ahead of their parade on Monday.

Radebe claimed that ‘glory days’ are back in LS11 before expressing his gratitude towards everyone associated with the Whites.

“God knows how much I wanted to celebrate silverware with Leeds United, but I am glad the boys have done it”, Radebe wrote on his personal X handle (5 May).

“Glory days are back. So grateful to everyone associated with Leeds! Come on Leeds!”

Elland Road faithful pay tribute to Radebe

Meanwhile, Leeds United faithful were quick to respond to Radebe’s post with expressions of admiration towards the former defender.

One supporter highlighted how much the South African made the Whites proud during his stint in England, while another described him as a ‘legend’.

Meanwhile, one particular fan was curious to know if Radebe would be a part of the celebration on Monday, although it turned out he was not.

Nevertheless, it is evident that Radebe does not silverware to be considered a legend among the Leeds United fans.
