Lucas Radebe and James Tavernier exchange online Leeds love-in
We’re all Leeds United aren’t we – James Tavernier certainly is after paying tribute to the club in a heartfelt Instagram post.
After wrapping up the Scottish Premiership on Sunday the Rangers captain was in jubilant mood but the best was yet to come.
The 29-year-old was left awestruck after a video call with Leeds legend Lucas Radebe set up by his teammate Bongani Zungu who is a compatriot of the former South Africa captain.
Tavernier posted a screenshot of his video call with Radebe on his personal Instagram profile and captioned it: “One of the most memorable nights I will never forget!! Winning 55!! Then my boy @bonganizungu surprising me with a call to my hero @lucasradebe .. One of the best days of my life!! #MOT”
The Gers right-back was born in West Yorkshire and spent seven years in the Whites youth system before moving to Newcastle United and embarking on his professional career.
We’re massive
On this evidence, it seems Tavernier has not lost his roots after this emotional and public display of affection for his beloved club.
It says a lot that even while he was celebrating probably the peak of his career he was still left gobsmacked by the chance to speak to the ‘Chief’.
Tavernier is still clearly in love with Leeds and who can blame him.
We wouldn’t say no if he fancied a move back to West Yorkshire.
Under Steven Gerrard he has been an utter revelation – only Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has more league goals than his 11 while he has also registered nine assists.
He looks tailor-made for this attacking Leeds side though Luke Ayling has done such a sterling job that we have no intention of removing him from the starting XI any time soon.
Who knows, if we continue our current trajectory to the top and Tavernier keeps up his impressive form maybe there will be space in an expanded Whites squad if we’re in Europe.
