Ben White is likely to be in the middle of a bidding war this summer.
The Brighton centre-back is on loan with Leeds until the end of the season but they have no option to make his deal permanent.
Brighton have said that he’s a big part of their future but there are bigger fish circling, including Liverpool.
Athletic journalist Phil Hay has said that Leeds would have the power to compete for his signature if they get promoted.
However, he also delivered a warning, saying, “Look out for Liverpool. Their talent scout Andy O’Brien (ex-Leeds) has been watching White closely.”
O’Brien played for Leeds between 2010 and 2012, making 38 appearances before moving to play for the Vancouver Whitecaps where he ended his playing career.
He’s been a talent scout at Liverpool for the past five years and he’s seemingly got a big interest in bringing White to Anfield.
White has been a star for Leeds – especially at the start of the season – and he’s played 90 minutes in every league game for Marcelo Bielsa.
He was part of the best defence in any league in England, with Leeds conceding just 10 goals in the first 21 Championship games.
With Leeds’ struggles at the other end well documented, the tight defence was crucial.
That’s slipped as Leeds suffered a slump in form, with 20 goals conceded in the following 11 games, but two clean sheets on the bounce has steadied the ship.
We’ve no doubt that White will be a primary target for Leeds in the summer but they could well have a big fight on their hands from the best team in Europe. And fans won’t be thanking O’Brien if he does end up on Merseyside.
