Paul Merson has labelled Leeds United winger Raphinha as a “luxury” after his start to life at Elland Road this season.
The Brazilian arrived from Rennes on deadline day back in the summer window and has quickly become a mainstay under Marcelo Bielsa.
The winger opened the scoring with his third goal of the season and went on to assist the winner in the 2-1 win against Newcastle on Tuesday evening.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Saturday afternoon, Merson admitted that it is hard for any new signing to get to grips with the Whites after arriving at Elland Road.
“He’s a bit of a luxury,” he said.
“I would look at him and think he’s a luxury. He’s one of them players – nice on the ball, he’s a good footballer.
“To come into that team is hard and to work like you have to, I called myself a good player, I’d find it hard to play in this Leeds team.”
Victor Orta definitely pulled off a masterclass with Raphinha.
The Brazilian left Champions League football behind in France to make the move to Elland Road, and for only £17million – Ian Wright admitted that players double that price aren’t doing half of what he is doing.
Raphinha was superb against Newcastle, and it is easy to see the class that he possesses.
It is hard to remember a winger at Elland Road who had as much class as the South American for a long, long time and we have to remember he has only been here for three months.
The 24-year-old already has three goals and three assists, and reaching double figures for goal involvements this season would be a brilliant return.
