Local journalist shares update after Huddersfield linked with switch for Leeds defender
The links between Huddersfield Town and Leeds United are continuing to appear.
With Carlos Corberan now in charge of the Terriers, there is bound to be speculation linking the Spaniard with some of his former players from the under-23s.
Reliable journalist Alan Nixon shared that Robbie Gotts was closing in on a loan switch, before adding that Huddersfield are also interested in Pascal Struijk.
Struijk was given his real breakthrough chance at the end of last season, with Marcelo Bielsa handing him the challenge of replacing the injured Kalvin Phillips.
Could both Struijk and Gotts be given the green light to temporarily leave Elland Road this season? More importantly, do Huddersfield really want both?
Local Huddersfield journalist Steven Chicken responded on Sunday, admitting that there is no substance to the links between the Terriers and Struijk.
“Further to this…I understand there is nothing in the reports linking Town to Leeds’ Pascal Struijk either,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
It would have been a surprise if the Dutch colossus was allowed to leave.
Despite impressing in midfield, Struijk can also play in the heart of defence and that could be a vital factor over the next three weeks.
Leeds only have one fully-fit senior central defender at the club right now.
Liam Cooper is looking lonely in the squad list, with Ben White returning to his parent club Brighton and Gaetano Berardi out for nine months and out of contract.
Further to this, Phil Hay has reported that Bielsa only wants to bring in one defender in this transfer window so allowing Struijk to leave would be a crazy decision.
We expect Struijk to be involved in the first-team squad next season, and this latest update backs up our prediction.
