Loan situation surely leave Mateusz Bogusz Leeds United career in doubt

Mateusz Bogusz is a player that hasn’t been mentioned a lot in recent months with the Leeds United midfielder currently on loan with UD Ibiza.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an excellent loan spell in the 2021/22 season scoring four goals and registering seven assists for the LaLiga 2 side. However, things haven’t been quite as good in this campaign.

Bogusz has yet to start a game for the Spanish side (Transfermarkt) this season and has only racked up just under 90 minutes of game time so far. He has also managed to earn himself a straight red card in one of those appearances – It’s clear things aren’t going to plan.

His Leeds United contract comes to a close in the summer of 2023, and with Jesse Marsch now at the helm, he faces a very uncertain future at the club. Considering he isn’t shining in the Spanish second division, it’s unlikely he will be a hit in the Premier League.

The Poland under-21 international is still relatively young so he has that on his side, but whether he has another stage of development in him remains to be seen. With Luis Sinisterra and Brenden Aaronson joining the club in the summer, the attacking midfielder will certainly find chances limited should he sign a new deal at Elland Road.

Leeds must now decide whether to offer the midfielder a new deal and hope he kicks on next season or allow him to leave the club. If they wish to offload Bogusz, then a January exit could be a good option for the club to pursue, with there still being a possibility of a fee involved.

It was somewhat surprising for Leeds not to cash in on him last summer when negotiating a loan deal with UD Ibiza. Realistically, there’s a good chance of the midfielder departing the club in the summer of 2023, and it will be a shame to see a highly-rated youngster leave Elland Road without making a proper first-team impression.
