Liverpool: Anfield sources share summer transfer stance on Leeds United gem Archie Gray
Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for Leeds United youngster Archie Gray in the summer transfer window, according to Neil Jones.
The journalist shared via his Substack page [21 February] that “it would feel like an unusual move” given the options already available at Anfield.
Gray, who is a central midfielder by trade but has been used almost entirely at right-back this term, was previously linked with Liverpool last year.
Jones said: “When you are 17 and playing at the level Archie Gray has been playing at, and on such a consistent basis, you are bound to attract attention, and Liverpool have been linked once again with the Leeds wonderkid.
“But Liverpool sources were pretty dismissive when stories appeared earlier this season suggesting the Reds were ready to spend big money on the teenager, and while he is undoubtedly a big talent, it is hard to see too much logic in such a deal at present.”
Leeds star Archie Gray attracting Premier League transfer interest
Even if Liverpool are not interested in pursuing a move for Gray, you can bet other clubs will be ready to pounce should Leeds not go up – and the midfielder-cum-defender is not alone in that regard.
Manchester United are another club to have previously been linked, but the rivalry between the two teams may sway the player’s decision.
Gray will see no reason to leave Elland Road right now, anyway, as he is playing regularly at a high enough level and is loved by supporters.
Whether the academy product continues to play at right-back in the long term, or instead shifts back into central midfield, remains to be seen.

Liverpool already have a whole host of right-backs and central midfielders, many of them very young, so this would be a strange move.
The fact Gray only recently penned a new deal until the end of 2027-28 ensures he will not come cheap if any clubs do come calling.
Promotion or not, the 17-year-old should remain a Leeds player for a few more seasons yet at the very least.
