Liverpool players not happy with Leeds as new details emerge on Elland Road scenes

LUTV commentator Bryn Law has revealed how Liverpool players reacted to Leeds United players’ celebrations in the Elland Road tunnel after the 3-3 draw.

Leeds United claimed a point in a 1-1 draw with Brentford on Sunday to extend their unbeaten record in the Premier League to three games.

Prior to that, Leeds and Liverpool played out a 3-3 draw at Elland Road, in what was an instant Premier League classic.

Having come from 2-0 down to level the game at 2-2 thanks to Anton Stach, Liverpool looked to have won it with 10 minutes to play after Dominik Szoboszlai’s well-taken finish.

However, it wasn’t to be Liverpool’s day, as a 96th-minute Ao Tanaka goal secured Leeds a hard-earned and vital late point, one that could prove essential to the Whites’ chances of top flight survival.

It also wrote Leeds United history too, as the result vs Liverpool meant it was the first time since October 1989 that Leeds have drawn a game 3-3 after the score was 0-0 at half-time.

There was also some controversy from a Liverpool perspective too, as referee Anthony Taylor waved away Liverpool appeals for a penalty after Lucas Perri made contact with his fists with Hugo Ekitike’s head inside the box in the first half.

Bryn Law reveals ‘raised eyebrows’ Liverpool response to Leeds tunnel celebrations

Speaking via The Square Ball podcast, LUTV commentator Bryn Law revealed a fascinating nugget of information on how Liverpool’s players reacted to Leeds’ Elland Road tunnel celebrations in the minutes after the full-time whistle blew.

“The scenes after Liverpool. Never has a home draw been celebrated [so much],” said Law.

“There was a lot of chuntering from the Liverpool players down the tunnel at the end, ‘why are they celebrating like this? It was a draw’. So that probably raised eyebrows, but the games have been great.”

Liverpool players should’ve been aware of what a draw meant for Leeds United

Understandably from a Leeds perspective, gaining a point in the dying embers against the current Premier League champions was a huge moment, both for the present, and to look back on many years down the line.

However, with Liverpool and the vast majority of their players used to competing at the top of league tables and winning silverware, Law’s testimony appears to show a lack of awareness to see things through a Leeds lense from those in red shirts that night.

Not only was it a just reward for Leeds’ superb second half fightback, and not only was it in front of an electric Elland Road crowd, but it was a point that could well make all the difference between survival and relegation come May.
