Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott suffers injury blow ahead of Leeds United clash

Leeds United host Liverpool when Premier League action resume after the international break, and the Reds are sweating over the fitness of two players.

According to The Athletic, Harvey Elliott has returned to Liverpool for treatment after withdrawing from the England Under-21s squad, while Takumi Minamino has also returned to the club early after picking up an injury on international duty with Japan.

While Elliot quitting international duty is only a precautionary measure, Minamino’s muscle problem is understood to be more of a concern ahead of the trip to Elland Road.

Double blow?

Leeds are without a victory in the Premier League this term, losing their opener to Manchester United before draws against Everton and Burnley.

Their run of fixtures is not getting any easier as they will be hosting Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday.

Liverpool have won two and drawn one of their opening three league fixtures, but they will not be expecting an easy game against Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

Elliott has established himself as a key player for the Reds this season, but they have enough depth in the middle of the park should the youngster become unavailable for selection at the weekend.

Minamino potentially missing the clash will not be a source of concern for Liverpool too as they have enough options in attack.

Leeds need to be on top of their game regardless of whichever Reds team they will be coming up against.

The Yorkshire outfit will be keen to finally pick up their first league win of the new season, and doing it at the expense of Liverpool would be huge.
