Leeds United slipped to a disappointing 4-3 defeat at Liverpool on Saturday as they returned to the Premier League in style.
The Whites earned massive plaudits for their display at Anfield, keeping more possession and completing more passes than the Premier League champions.
Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich found the back of the net, as new signings Robin Koch and Rodrigo both gave away penalties in the action-packed defeat.
Helder Costa caught the eye upon his return to the Premier League and posted on his Instagram account after the defeat.
Liverpool’s Fabinho responded to the post, as did Manchester United’s main-man Bruno Fernandes after the clash.
“What a player,” Fabinho wrote in the comments.
Fernandes also responded, simply calling the 26-year-old winger “ace” as Leeds obviously sent a message to the rest of the Premier League.
Costa was certainly one of many to catch the eye at Anfield, and he looked to thrive in the open spaces left behind the Liverpool midfield at times.
Outside of his superb assist for Klich’s goal in the second half, the Portuguese winger completed two dribbles as well as a key pass according to WhoScored.
On top of that, the 26-year-old also kept one of the Premier League’s best full-backs in Andy Robertson quiet for the majority of the game, helping out Luke Ayling in defence to great effect.
It wasn’t only Fabinho and Fernandes who were impressed, with Costa earning great praise – something he must take forward into the rest of the season.
