‘Lively’ – BBC pundit raves about rarely-seen Leeds teen who has ‘great bit of pace’

BBC Radio Leeds pundit Noel Whelan has been raving about Leeds United youngster Jordan Stevens after breaking into the first-team in recent weeks.

Stevens, 19, has made two Championship appearances for the Whites in the last month, coming off the bench in defeats to Fulham and, most recently, Sheffield Wednesday.

Although the former Forest Green Rovers player could play a role in Leeds winning any points in the league, Whelan is still happy with what he has seen so far.

“Yeah look it’s great to see these young lads getting a go,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“He looked very composed when he came on, got a great touch, great vision, likes to link up on that right-hand side.

“He’s the player who has taken over from Jack Clarke, so yeah it seems like for like, he looks lively, great bit of pace and he likes to link up in wide areas.

“So it was great to see him get that opportunity.”

Stevens is certainly one of the more highly-rated youngsters in the Leeds United squad but so far, we have only seen the teenager play four times in the senior squad.

He is still only 19-years-of-age and has some way to go before we can say that he is fully developed but it is definitely promising to see the midfielder getting into the matchday squads more often.

Marcelo Bielsa has always been keen to promote players from the Under-23s to the first-team when he has needed some extra bodies about.

Stevens needs to keep taking advantage of those opportunities because there will come a point when Bielsa will have players available that are above him in the pecking order.

Stevens has done nothing wrong so far though so his first few auditions in the squad have been promising, despite him playing in defeats.
