Likely winner named in Leeds United and Southampton race for Joseph Paintsil

Southampton appear to have capitalised on the failure of Leeds United to agree on personal terms with Joseph Paintsil, according to Ghana Soccer Net.

The media outlet reported on Monday (28 August) that the deal for Leeds to sign the 25-year-old has collapsed.

This has seen the Saints emerging as the favourites who are offering him better terms to sign him this summer and will continue talks with him on Monday.

Sky Sports reported in their live transfer blog (22 August, 16:49pm) that it will take £8.5million to secure the services of the Ghana international.

That certainly is a fee Leeds can pay and the issue looks to be on personal terms with the player not being happy with what’s been given to him.

Paintsil strengthens the best XIs of both Leeds and Southampton and a win for one club will be a massive loss for the other.

Both sides are among the candidates to secure promotion and were tipped to finish in the play-off places at the start of the season.

This saga has thrown plenty of twists and turns and it’s unlikely to slow down in the days right until the transfer deadline.

It remains to be seen where the 25-year-old ends up but it seems less likely that it will be at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have now emerged as favourites to sign a Premier League player likened to Lionel Messi.
