Liam Cooper spotted training with Rangers ace Alex Lowry in Leeds United Premier League break

Liam Cooper has been training with Rangers youngster Alex Lowry in Dubai as the Leeds United captain maintains his fitness during the World Cup break.

Cooper was missing for the first part of the 2022/23 season but has featured in the past nine matches for Jesse Marsch’s side.

The 31-year-old now has a month off and has been training with 19-year-old Lowry during the World Cup break. Cooper posted an Instagram story (23 November) of the pair going through endurance training whilst out in Dubai.

It’s not a surprise to see Cooper training out in Dubai to maintain his fitness levels ahead of the Premier League season restarting in December. He’s probably more aware than most of the improvements which must be made when it comes to Leeds’ defence. Jesse Marsch will be looking to bolster his backline in January and Cooper could see more competition could soon come his way.

Cooper is out of contract in the summer of 2024 and he could well be entering the latter stages of his career at Elland Road. At 31, another contract does seem unlikely for Cooper, with Leeds potentially looking to go in a different direction in terms of recruitment.

Ensuring Leeds are defensively rigid in the second half of the season has to be a priority for Marsch, with his side having to score three goals a game at the moment.

It’s an entertaining watch but not a sustainable way for Leeds to avoid relegation in the 2022/23 season.
