Liam Cooper reveals why Jesse Marsch shouted at Leeds United squad during pre-season tour of Australia
Liam Cooper has opened up on the time Jesse Marsch shouted at the Leeds United squad for their lack of respect in Australia.
Marsch comes across as a lovable and friendly manager, but Leeds United captain Cooper has revealed that the American has also shown his nasty side to the dressing room.
Leeds jetted off to Australia for their pre-season tour in the summer, and started their trip with a 2-1 victory over Brisbane Roar.
However, Marsch was left fuming at the actions of his squad in the dressing room after the game.
“We had a few new players as well and after the game we’ve come in and the boys have had their showers and grub after the game and they’ve obviously not tidied the water bottles away and cleaned the dressing room,” Cooper revealed to the Official Leeds United Podcast, as quoted by Leeds Live.
“Straight away the next morning Jesse got stuck into the group on a whole, all of us, and said this can’t happen again.”
It’s great to hear that Marsch is upholding high standards in the Leeds United dressing room.
The 48-year-old coach is clearly a good man manager, and he’s frequently stuck up for his squad even when on the brink of relegation last season. But it’s equally as good to hear that he’s keeping the squad disciplined and demaning respect from his players.
As a result, the harmony of Leeds’ dressing room seems great this season, and the tour of Australia seems to have helped many of the club’s new signings bond.
It’s easy for egos to inflate in the Premier League, but Marsch – along with a number of key players like Cooper – have done a great job when it comes to keeping the unity and togetherness of the squad.
From Marsch’s very first game at Leeds when he ordered his team to huddle on the pitch and applaud the fans it was blatantly clear that he understood what the Elland Road faithful expect of his side.
