Liam Cooper could miss Leeds clash v Manchester United

Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper was a glaring omission from the 3-2 defeat against Real Betis on Saturday.

The defender has been spotted returning to pre-season training but has yet to feature in one of the four friendlies this week.

It has been shared by LUFC FANZONE that there are still doubts over his availability for the Premier League opener against Manchester United.

A source close to the player has reportedly claimed that he could return early, and even feature against Ajax, but things are in the air.

Sharing the update on their official Twitter account, it appears as though everything is crossed regarding his fitness.

“I hope he is back for the start of the season, and maybe even for the Ajax game, but who knows,” the source told them.

“Seeming Liam’s absence is Covid/injury-related, however our source wasn’t willing to go into detail.”

Not again.

This just adds to a long list of potential defensive injuries and gives us flashbacks to last season and our nightmare.

Diego Llorente limped off injured against Real Betis, and Pascal Struijk was also left with a sore one after being taken out by Nabil Fekir.

Add to that the head knock picked up by Charlie Cresswell against Fleetwood, and Robin Koch could be our only fit central defender.

Cooper’s situation is unknown, and it appears as though not even those close to him can give an accurate timeline.

So, the Scotsman could return as early as the Ajax game, but he could also be missing as long as the Manchester United clash.

We hope for some clarity soon, and we suppose we will have to wait until that trip to Amsterdam to see how Cooper’s fitness is holding up.
