Leon Osman raves about Jack Harrison, hints he is unfortunate not to get England call
Jack Harrison was key for Leeds United in the win against Burnley and Gabby Logan questioned why he was not in contention to go to the Euros.
The winger scored one and assisted two to take his Premier League tally to eight goals and eight assists – no English midfielder has managed more.
But so far there has been no talk of the 24-year-old being called up to England by Gareth Southgate, a fact which Logan queried.
On BBC’s Match of the Day, Logan said, “Jack Harrison is a player who perhaps doesn’t get quite the plaudits he should. When you look at the stats, no English midfielder has been involved in more goals than him this season.
“He’s up there with the very best yet not talked about as a player for the Euros.”
Leon Osman agreed with the point Logan made, and replied, “It’s a shame because he’s had an incredible season, the stats speak for themselves to have done so well.
“We [England] have an embarrassment of riches in that area but the young man has just got to keep on doing what he’s doing.
“Keep trying to impress every time he plays because with performances like that today he’s certainly going in the right direction.”
Flying under the radar
Harrison has been exceptional at times this season and he has improved so much since his first season with us in the Championship.
He does indeed deserve more praise and if he was a bit more consistent he would likely be in Southgate’s thinking.
However, the fact he has not been talked about much works in our favour, as it reduces the likelihood of another club making a move for him in the summer.
The Whites reportedly have an agreement in place with Manchester City to sign Harrison for £10million [Phil Hay], and that is an absolute bargain given the season he has had.
Getting him tied up has to be the first priority this summer, as he will clearly contribute goals and assists wherever he ends up next term.
He is yet another great example of a player Marcelo Bielsa has sculpted into a top-class star, and we are excited to see him get better and better in Leeds shirt if he signs.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have tabled a new contract offer to a frustrated player amid a major transfer U-turn.
