Leon Osman delivers glowing review of Leeds United mentality despite 4-1 loss to Arsenal
Leon Osman has waxed lyrical about the positive mentality of Leeds United despite coming up short in their 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Whites went toe to toe with Mikel Arteta’s league leaders for large portions of the game on Saturday (1 April), but a brace from Gabriel Jesus as well as goals for Ben White and Granit Xhaka, ultimately condemned the Whites to a comprehensive defeat.
After going 3-0 down, Javi Gracia’s side pulled a goal back through Rasmus Kristensen and followed this neat piece of play with a barrage of attacks on Aaron Ramsdale’s goal.
“They just don’t seem to let their heads lower, and they just keep charging forward,” Osman said on Final Score (1 April, 4:38pm).
“They only have one way of playing and despite what Javi Gracia might be trying to do with his new approach, they still want to gun forward and take the game to Arsenal.
“Arsenal have shown their superior quality, but Leeds are even pushing now in the Arsenal box, trying to create chances, and they might be a little bit nervous despite the two-goal advantage right now.”

Never give up attitude
Although Leeds eventually fell to a 4-1 defeat at the Emirates, the performance wasn’t without its bright moments of play.
The Whites were actually the better side in the opening stages and could have taken the lead after just 10 seconds of the encounter. A further missed chance by Crysencio Summerville just before Arsenal took the lead now looks like it was a crucial turning point in the encounter.
Osman’s observation that heads never drop within the Leeds squad, no matter the score, is quite correct, and it is a philosophy that stems back to Marcelo Bielsa’s time in the Elland Road dugout.
Under the Argentine, Leeds never ever gave up, and it seems like this has continued through the eras of Jesse Marsch and Gracia.
In a relegation battle as tight as this season could end up being, this never give up attitude will certainly bear fruit at some point over the coming weeks.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites may now be able to land a target they made an approach for in January with his club now waiting for £20million offer.
